Visit by Rwanda High Commissioner

We hosted the Rwanda High Commissioner at the Secretariat today. Visiting EATTA was his priority. He expressed gratitude to EATTA for promoting Rwanda teas and the positive impact to their economy.

Kabitungu Junior Secondary School

The Board of Management, Teachers, Parent and Students of Kabitungu Junior Secondary School had requested for funding through Bureti Tea Factory Ltd to support the stocking of their junior secondary school classrooms with desks and chairs. The student population stands at 50, most of which were using furniture that was damaged beyond repair. The estimated cost of a desk and chair had been estimated to be around 5000ksh or thereabout thus their total request was for 250,000 kshs. This school supports various under privileged children. These are the children of small holder farmers in Kericho county, and contribution will go a long way to facilitating their education.

AGC Baby Center

The AGC Baby Center fronted by Kuresoi Tea Factory Limited. This is a charitable institution that exists to rescue babies between the ages of 0-4yrs old who have been abandoned, orphaned, or are facing violence and offer them a temporary home before they are adopted into homes or placed into foster care. The institution relies entirely on donations from churches and well-wishers for the provisions of the needs of these babies. Most of these children come from the tea growing areas of Kericho, Bomet and Nakuru and regrettably, some have been found abandoned in the tea plantations of these areas.

Consultative Forum with the President

The East African Tea Trade Association was invited to a consultative forum with the President, His Excellency Dr. William Samoei Ruto held at Kenya Ports Authority on Saturday 29th July, 2023.Below issues affecting the tea auction were presented for discussion during the forum.

Press Release by East Africa Tea Trade Association (EATTA) on the insecurity and wanton destruction of property in the tea estates.

The Board of the East African Tea Trade Association (EATTA) is deeply concerned about the insecurity and the wanton destruction of property in the tea estates in the South Rift.

The East African Tea Trade Association in collaboration with the Burundi Tea Authority (OTB) will be conducting the 5th African Tea Convention & Exhibition at the Hotel club du lac Tanganyika, Bujumbura, Burundi from 20th to 22nd July,2022.

Register

Any firm or company established in Africa that is appointed by a tea factory limited company through a specific management contract or agreement to perform or offer professional services.

Uganda Tea Association

Uganda Tea Association (UTA) is the umbrella body of 95% of tea farmers and processors both small and big in Uganda.  UTA was formed in 1948 as a voluntary Association of Tea Producers to meet and discuss common problems affecting the tea industry and find solutions.  The Association continued to be active throughout the period of Uganda’s history; except for the period from1973 till 1983 when it remained dormant.

Tea Association of Malawi

Founded in 1934, the Tea Association of Malawi Limited (TAML) is one of the oldest organisations in Malawi. TAML was established with the aim of representing the entire tea industry both nationally and internationally on matters of interest to tea growers and producers. The association dates back to before Malawi received its independence in 1964. Before that date the Nyasaland Tea Research Association body founded with research as its main objective, had been in existence for about five years.

Tea Association of Tanzania

The Tea Association of Tanzania was formed out of The Tanganyika Tea Growers Association (TTGA) which was established in 1940s by large scale tea producers to promote the common interests of the plantation sub-sector members in the cultivation and manufacture of tea, and to promote good industrial relations and sound wage policies for their workers.

Rwanda Tea Authority

Tea growing was introduced in Rwanda as an industrial crop and purely for export purposes to generate foreign income as early as 1960. Black tea manufacturing followed in 1965 at Mulindi tea factory in the Northern Province. Since then the tea sector has become the most important source export earning after the coffee market plunged in recent years. Tea is now number one export earner ; contributing up to 34% of the total national exports.

Education Sponsorship

Through Hatua Network continue to pay school fees for Abubaker Mohamed now in Form 3, based on Committees’ approval in 2019 to cater for his entire Secondary School fees.
